Indication
Intravascular volume expansion, plasma exchange, maintenance of plasma colloid osmotic pressure.
Dosage form
20% w/v as 20 grams in 100 mL, 10 grams in 50 mL,
25% w/v as 25 grams in 100 mL, 12.5 grams in 50 mL,
5% w/v as 12.5 grams in 250 mL
Dose
Adult :
20% w/v solution: 2.5 to 5 mL/kg or 5% w/v solution : 10 to 20 mL/kg.
Child :
20% w/v solution: 2.5 to 5 mL/kg/dose (0.5 to 1 g/kg/dose) or 5% w/v solution : 10 to 20 mL/kg/dose (0.5 to 1 g/kg/dose).
The dose will depend on the patient’s clinical status. Maximum of 6 g/kg/24 h recommended
