Classification
ANTI-INFECTIVE ANTIBACTERIAL PENICILLIN
Indication
Sensitive bacterial infections including gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, salmonellosis, and typhoid fever.
Dosage form
250 mg, 500 mg, 1 gram/vial.
Dose
Adult : 250 mg to 1 gram every 4 to 6 hours
Up to 12 grams daily have been used in severe infections
Administration
IV: Bolus or Intermittent infusion, IM
Intravenous Concentration
Bolus: 500 mg in 10 to 20 mL
Intermittent Infusion: >500mg – 1 gram in 50 to 100 mL
Intravenous Rate
Bolus: Inject over 3 to 5 minutes.* * Not to exceed 100 mg per minute.
Intermittent Infusion: Infuse over at least 10 to 30 minutes.
Storage

Reconstitution
WFI. Use 10 mL per gram.
For IM: WFI Use 1.5 mL for each 250 mg, 500 mg, 1 gram/ vial
Stability

Adverse effect
Anaphylactoid reactions, คลื่นไส้ อาเจียน ผื่น
Precaution
ถ้าให้ยาเร็วเกินไป อาจกระตุ้นให้เกิดอาการชัก กล้ามเนื้ออักเสบ ควรปรับขนาดยาในผู้ป่วยโรคไต แต่ไม่ต้องปรับขนาดยาในผู้ป่วยโรคตับ
