Indication
Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, atrial fibrillation and flutter, supraventricular and ventricular tachycardias, and recurrent ventricular fibrillation.
Dosage form
150 mg/3 mL/ampoule
Dose
Adult : 5 mg/kg over 20 minutes to 2 hours. Repeated infusions of up to 1200 mg (or 15 mg/kg) over 24 hours may follow this.
Child : 5 mg/kg over 1 to 4 hours, then 5 to 15 mcg/kg/minute.
Administration
IV: Bolus, Intermittent infusion or Continuous infusion
Intravenous Concentration
Bolus: 150 to 300 mg in 10 to 20mL. Emergency only
Intermittent Infusion: 150 to 500 mg in 250 mL
Continuous Infusion: Up to 1200 mg in 500 mL
Intravenous Rate
Bolus: Inject 150 to 300 mg over 1 to 2 minutes. Emergency only.
Intermittent Infusion: 150 to 500 mg over 20 min to 2 hours
Continuous Infusion: 1200 mg over 24 hours. Up to 2400 mg may be given

Precaution
Check for hypersensitivity to amiodarone before administration. Monitor vital signs during administration. Rapid administration or overdosage may lead to hypotension and circulatory collapse. Bolus injection should only be considered in an emergency. Monitor liver function, thyroid function and serum levels. Contraindicated in pregnancy or lactation. Use with extreme caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction due to increased risk of toxicity. U-Waves and deformed T-Waves may occur in the ECG because of the fixing of amiodarone in myocardial tissues.
